Sermon Preview: The Sower and the Seed

Greetings, Middle Creek congregation and friends!

This Sunday we will be sharing Matthew 13:3-8 - the parable of the sower and the seeds.

Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

I have been praying about this scripture and how it relates to our lives. The very act of praying made me think about prayer as well. In the very near future, we will be starting a short series on prayer and I will keep you all informed, and I pray you will join with us.

But I digress. Back to this Sunday and the sower and the seeds…

Most of us know a little bit about gardening or farming, or at least we know someone that does. Because it’s more familiar to us, we often look at this parable from to the Sower’s perspective, and maybe question the seed. But I hope you’ll join us on Sunday and explore with us the true meaning of this parable and what it has to say to you and I, our faith, and our lives, as we learn that it is all about the soil and cultivation.

By the way, I once performed a song to 10,000 ears, and was doing great until the farmer showed up and told me to get out of his corn field… (I’ll just assume you’re laughing along with me)

Jesus loves you and so do we at Middle Creek UMC!

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Bruce
