Sermon Preview: Prayer
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
I am praying for our time together on Sunday and excited to get started sharing “Prayer”.
Prayer is an invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with an object of worship through deliberate communication. In the narrow sense, the term refers to an act of supplication or intercession directed towards a deity (a god), or a deified ancestor.
We turn to prayer because it is the most personal way to experience God, to encounter Him, and to grow in knowledge of Him.
According to the book of Ephesians, God's desire is for us to pray “on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Ephesians 6:18).
Sunday, we will explore Matthew 6:5-15. Jesus will teach us how to pray…
The Lord's Prayer
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this…”
I think you all know what comes next.
See you on Sunday!
